Yes, it’s true – visiting a foreign country can be cheaper than living at home. Depending on your travel style and your destination, traveling abroad can be significantly cheaper than the sum of all of the costs associated with living in the U.S.
Our infographic shows how the costs stack up. We compare the cost of living in five U.S. cities to the average costs of travel in five different countries around the world. The results can be quite surprising and inspirational.

The visual elements repeated in the design make it pretty clear that the subject has to do with travel, which is helpful! However, a lot of the specifics once you get into each destination are conveyed through text. The data visualization for costs is somewhat helpful for relieving that reliance on text in the comparison portions. What would make this more interesting is more visual reference to the specific locations, though. The bulk of the information compares a US city to an international location, and we don't get any visual sense of those locations specifically. In all we'd give this a C+.
