Recent United States elections not only voted Trump in office, but also voted marijuana into legalization. Well for another eight states at least.. Arkansas, North Dakota, Florida and Montana will be added to the list of states that have a medical marijuana program. By now the majority of states recognize the healing capabilities of the cannabis sativa plant. California, Maine, Massachusetts and Nevada even voted for legalization for adult recreational use. Almost former president Obama recently declared that it would be hard for the federal laws not to catch up to the majority of the country. But unfortunately this may still take a while. So if you want to know if you’re allowed to grow marijuana in your state? Check out our infographic below or hop to the article for more detailed information.

This infographic illustrates how recent legislature has affected marijuana legality across the U.S. The large map below the header provides solid reference points for quickly obtaining relevant information about marijuana use - a great example of visual communication. Though this infographic provides a helpful list for understanding the legal status of marijuana on a state-by-state basis, the current layout confuses the eye. Additionally, while the use of leaves to represent the status of cannabis legality is interesting in the "Round Up" section, the visual does not communicate much more than a general idea. Leveraging actual statistics would cultivate an image of trust and authority for your brand within your audience. There is a lot of text here, and the entire infographic could benefit from a redesign as the text-based background only serves to distract the viewers from your content. Because it communicates information in text, rather than in visuals, we'd give this an F.
