This infographic was submitted to us by Ruffneck Hockey.

It compares Canadian and U.S. hockey teams by stats, venues, and awards. Data visualization helps us see the wide range of points per game by player in Canada — all the while noting that all of these players are better than all but one player in the U.S.! However, American players catch up in overall goals, edging out all but one Canadian.

It’a amazing to see that over 1% of the population in Canada and Finland are registered hockey players! Makes you wonder how many unofficial/casual hockey players there are, too…

At the final weigh-in, it’s clear Canada has won the most Stanley Cups… but the noteworthy stats seem to be how many were won in the past 30 years. The U.S. might be catching up! The data viz helps to show the overall numbers, but it may help to add visualization for the “past 30 years” stats as well to really emphasize how far the U.S. has come.

In all I’d give this infographic an A-! Lots of great data visualization and a strong conclusion, but as the final point, perhaps the number of Stanley Cups in the most recent decades would be a powerful visualization.
