This infographic was submitted to us by The Jack the Ripper Tour. It shows a timeline of events surrounding the infamous Jack the Ripper murders.
The photos of the women are a great touch to add to the spookiness of the design. Additional visual queues would really help to enhance the infographic by reducing the reliance on text, instead telling the story with visuals. For example, a map could be employed to show the locations of the murders, or illustrations of the letters received by police. The more the narrative can be carried by visuals, the more effective the infographic will be.
In addition, it’s a bit confusing to have a timeline followed by a list that includes some of the names shown in the timeline — and those that were in the timeline have their death information repeated. It seems that all of the women should be included in the timeline to avoid repetition.
In all I’d give this design a C because it could use more visuals and more organizational clarity to improve its effectiveness.
