The sleep pattern of our ancestors is very different from us. Besides being different, it is believed that they had better sleep quality than most of us in the modern era. Here’s an infographic describing their sleep behaviors and lifestyle:
1. They spent more time outdoors.
More outdoor time means more sun exposure. That’s the reason, as most historians agreed, why our ancestors had better sleep than us. Sunlight keeps the circadian rhythm tuned, telling the body when to get up and sleep.
2. They led active lives.
We usually hear health experts promoting active lifestyle for longevity. The problem is we are not doing our very best to stay physically active. Our ancestors, on the other hand, had no difficulty living an active lifestyle. They do it naturally.
3. They ate fresh foods.
The foods we eat affect our sleep quality. If we indulge too much on burgers, and fries, we’ll never have a good night sleep. Our ancestors were lucky. Their diet was more on fresh foods, helping maintain their sleep quality.
4. When it’s dark, they sleep immediately.
Since they didn’t have social media and fancy gadgets, they slept after the sun went down. Research also said that sometimes they woke up in the middle of the night to hang out around the campfire for a while, before going back to sleep until dawn.
