What is a carport?
Carport literally means a covered portal, the French term is known as ‘Porte Cochere’. Carport provides quality protection and cover to vehicles from the natural elements such as sun, rain, dust, wind and snow. Carports have at least two open sides to it, unlike a garage that is walled on all three sides with one side open (door).
Types of carports
- Flat Roof carport: A flat roof is one of the most cost effective and convenient carport structure, built as per the customer’s preference. One can design singular flat roof carport or a twofold flat roof carport, as per their choice.
- Gable Roof carport: Stylish gable roof carports are built to enhance or beautify the outer areas of a property. They are also constructed to match an existing garage space. Gable roof carports are best for areas that experience climatic conditions such as heavy rains or snowfall from time to time.

This infographic does a good job of clearly showing the subject at the start and throughout — carports. The styles used do vary throughout, though, from basic icons to 3D illustrations and photos, which can be distracting. Additionally, the script is grammatically awkward, but luckily the viewer can glean much of the information just from looking and reading the headers. I'd give this a C+ overall.
