The goal of this infographic was to help educate people on how complex their mouth really is. We use our mouths every single day to help us eat, drink, breathe and communicate, but few of us understand how incredibly complex it can be. The goal of this graphic was to use a visual format to communicate that. It shows some of the mind boggling numbers that represent how our mouth works. Hopefully, if people better understand the complexity of their mouth they’ll be more likely to take care of it by brushing, flossing and rinsing properly. This graphic was researched, designed and created entirely by me, Jeffery Williams.

This infographic describes our mouths in terms of taste buds and saliva. Some of the imagery used is pretty effective (like the graph showing the amount of taste buds on various animals), but some is less so (like the icons under "Taste Bud Facts," which are a bit too vague to communicate the meaning of the text). Looking at the infographic has a whole, there actually isn't any imagery of mouths; at a glance, the viewer couldn't tell the subject without reading. The final instance of data visualization is also a bit problematic, since it makes water bottles look significantly larger than water coolers, and also uses different scales for each side of the visualization. The infographic has a ton of great information in it, but it could benefit from some improvements in design and visual communication. In all we'd give this a D.
