That dreaded word for anyone who owns a commercial building, home or rental: Mold. Mold is pervasive, but it can’t grow just anywhere. And, when it comes to growing inside a home or other structure, there’s more to it than you might think. This infographic explores what it takes for mold to grow indoors. The journey begins when mold spores become airborne, eventually finding their way into a home, business, building or other closed space. Then, if the necessary conditions are met, mold can begin to thrive, grow and spread. Those conditions? In order to thrive, beyond the mold spores themselves, the conditions necessary are: a food source, darkness and warmth, moisture, and time.

This infographic provides information about the conditions that allow mold to grow indoors, as well as some general facts about mold and its potentially harmful effects to humans. This infographic's dark color palette and background texture work well to complement the main subject, by subtly evoking the actual conditions in which mold thrives. Pops of neon draw the reader's eye and break up the dark background. Some sections are illustrated with icons, which are rendered in a fairly consistent style. One section uses a word cloud instead of visuals, which as a form of data visualization tends to be very difficult to interpret accurately. Nevertheless, the content of the infographic is informative, targeted, organized in a logical structure, and error-free. Some sub-points are too long and wordy to fit well within an infographic, so reducing the text in some places would increase the readability. Overall, we'd give this a C.
