Barcodes: A Brief History

This infographic presents a timeline of barcode history. The line that tracks through the piece is very helpful to follow the entries; however, the shift of reading direction can be confusing at times. The years are well emphasized, keeping the reader on track — but as a result, the icons don't feel as prominent. On that note, some of the icons are repeated, which makes lowers the credibility in the visual communication, and some are a bit too small to be readable in the context of the timeline. The copy is brief, which is helpful in this structure. However, inconsistent verb tense and punctuation lessen the text impact. Overall, there's some helpful information here, but the timeline needs a bit more consistency and balance. We'd give this a D.
