Are We in the Middle of an Oil Crisis?
Is the United States running out of oil? We have less than half a lifetime to run our cars, shop online, and eat fresh vegetables before we run out. How did we get here and what can you do to stop it?
The image shown depicts the current state of oil in the world. We’re using a lot of it for many different things, and we can’t keep it up for much longer. This trend has moved many experts to say that we are in the midst of an oil crisis, one that we may not be able to recover from. Here are some of the ways the United States contributes to this downward spiral.
Visual Communication - 55%
Design - 60%
Content/Script - 70%
Usability - 70%
This infographic discusses available oil globally. There are a few good examples working toward data visualization, but pay attention to unintentional indicators like the size of the circles on the map (the small black dot might imply Canada is only the size of the dot, for example) and the lines coming up from the line graph to house the labels, which could imply increases if not carefully examined. Most importantly, there is no imagery related to oil on the infographic; designs should reflect their subject matter. In all we'd give this a D.
