This infographic was submitted by Veracode, who have this to say:

“Whether it’s malicious intent or simple human error, Twitter users are increasingly at risk when it comes to protecting their privacy and reputation online. This infographic details several of the most recent and now infamous Twitter hacks, and examines common entry points for hackers, including weak passwords and malicious email attachments.”

This was really interesting to read, and definitely made me laugh. I love that there are screenshots of all the hacks–what’s included is extremely thorough, even giving examples of the banned passwords. That sort of detail is sometimes left out, but this included everything it promised. There are a few typos throughout, though. “Justin Bieber’s friends Twitter” should’ve had an apostrophe, “friend’s.” The info box about The Script Kiddies reads “The Script Kiddie.”

Unfortunately, there’s no data viz here, because, well, there’s almost no data to visualize. There are plenty of examples shown, and lots of interesting facts, but very little that can be shown in a chart or graph or by size or any of the other ways infographics do it. The most followed Twitter accounts would have been prime territory for a bar graph. Something might’ve been done with the 26,000 text messages Bieber’s hacker got, too. That’s not really enough to complete an infographic, though. I still want to give it a C because it’s really entertaining and the design, while a little chaotic, looks great and is easy to follow. It just needs a lot less text and a lot more graphics.

This infographic comes to us from our friends at Viral MS.

There are a ton of Twitter infographics out there, most of which find a way to incorporate the Twitter brand or just birds in general. This one is particularly creative – I love all of the different types of birds and that the entire infographic is a tree in a little park. There is also a healthy amount of data visualization here. Overall, I give this a B.

The reason that this one didn’t earn an A is the lack of cohesion in the data. The design is pretty cohesive, but this just seems to be a list of random facts about Twitter. An good infographic should tell a story, and this one really doesn’t – it seems to be a bit all over the place. A way to improve this would be to stick to the “Twitterpalooza” theme and include facts that refer to excess or abundance of things related to Twitter, such as the stat for the tweets per second record and more about how many users there are, how much Twitter is worth, it’s rapid growth in the past few years, etc.

Another suggestion I have is for the pie chart towards the end – the yellow fonts are difficult to read and the labels are placed haphazardly around the pie chart instead of near the sections of the pie that they correspond to. That way, the chart will be a lot easier to look at for the reader.

Lastly, the full-size version of this is way too large. Shrinking the width down to 1000 pixels will keep it at a reasonable, readable size without forcing the user to scroll in multiple directions in order to view the entire thing. Overall, this is a great Twitter infographic. I love all of the different little birds (some of them are so cute!) and the design is interesting and creative.

>

This infographic comes to us from our friends at Viral MS. The infographic is pretty good, but there are definitely some spaces where the data visualization could be improved, which is why I am going to give it a C – infographic designs should always be data-driven. The data in the “global market” pie chart would be more interesting if it were presented with a world map. The “Tweet Contents” information could also be pretty entertaining if it featured examples of each type of tweet – using screen caps of Viral MS’s tweets in the infographic could have been a pretty cool branding opportunity!

The other section that I think could be improved is the “Most Active Twitter Moments” section. The speedometer image is a cool idea, but I would like to see the numbers compared visually – perhaps with a creative bar chart incorporating the twitter birds somehow. This way, the designer could still incorporate the distance/speed (the idea being that some of the birds could travel faster than others – are Twitter birds powered by tweets?)

The “Twitter Revolutions” section has a lot of great info, but it would be nice to see some explanations of each of these revolutions to give the reader a bit more context.

Overall, this infographic works. The design is good and works in Twitter’s style and aesthetic very well, and serves as a great overview of important points reminding us why we love Twitter so much. To take it to the next level would require some more work on the data vis itself.

What do you think about this infographic? How does it compare to the other Twitter infographics out there?

This infographic comes to us from Go-Globe.com and covers facts about what can happen in 60 seconds for several websites that we all use every day. Here is a sample of what goes on online each minute:

12,000+ ads are posted to Craigslist.org

98,000+ new Tweets are posted.

6,600+ pictures are uploaded to Flickr.

There are over 695,000 status updates on Facebook.

Over 70 new domain names are registered.

This infographic has a lot of data. It is fairly easy to read and go through quickly, but this data could be visualized in a much better way. Right now, each statistic is accompanied by the respective logo of the website. I really like the way that all of the logos are incorporated and all of the facts are very interesting.

This data could be presented well graphically — the LinkedIn section is a good example of how most of this data could be visualized. Each icon could represent a certain number of profiles (or tweets or status updates) and then the total number could be displayed that way. The sites whose statistics involve amounts of time (like Pandora or Skype) could be visualized in a similar way or with a bar graph. In addition improving the aesthetic of the infographic and making it easier to read, visualizing the data would be a great way to compare activity on each of these websites as well.

This infographic is designed nicely, but could seriously benefit from work on the data visualization aspect. It has the potential to be really great!

This infographic comes to us from Infographics Archive and is basically a roundup of different facts and figures regarding Twitter. What I really like about this infographic is that the design clearly emulates the design of Twitter and remains consistent throughout the infographic. I like color scheme and all the little twitter birds.

What I don’t like about this infographic is that it doesn’t really tell us anything. It has some data visualization, but it primarily consists of text which completely defeats the purpose of an infographic. As for the data that is visualized: the graph showing Twitter’s personnel growth needs to be labeled differently. The title of the graph should be above the graph itself, not inside of it. The pie graph showing the content of tweets is interesting information, but I think the section could be cleaner and a little more balanced. The information on demographics is interesting, but not interesting looking. I don’t like the little pictures of people – they don’t go with the flow of the infographic at all.

The section showing the value of Twitter could easily become a graph showing its rumored value against other major social networking and search engine sites.

I like the section on the most popular Twitter users – it’s good that it shows the number of followers, number of tweets, and Twitter handle of each user. The only thing I don’t understand are the arrows on the side – what are those supposed to be? The bottom section with all of the different information on the number of tweets could be expressed in terms of a few graphs. I shouldn’t have to read it. Overall, the infographic is a good idea and had a good basic theme, but really needs improvement in actually visualizing all the data it represents.

This infographic comes to us from the folks at ecreativeim.com and covers statistics in business to business social media marketing. Here’s what they had to say about their infographic:

B2B companies (business that sell to other businesses, rather than to end consumers) are making use of social media to promote themselves in record numbers. This simple infographic attempts to explain why for those B2B companies that simply don’t the point of social media in B2B internet marketing. This infographic covers some basic statistic about how awesomely huge the leading social media outlets are, and then dives into some B2B-specific info, including B2B buyer behavior.

First off, I really like the color scheme of the infographic. I also like the way that the charts look – I love when people take a traditional pie chart and add some subtle changes that make the chart look completely different.

The biggest issue with this infographic is pretty obvious right away: there is way, way too much text. The point of an infographic is that you don’t have to read the entire thing. Not only does having too much text completely miss the point, it distracts from the data visualization itself as opposed to clarifying or enhancing it, which I honestly think there is enough here to display properly. As it is now, it seems like the images are more there to compliment the text descriptions than the other way around.

I also think that the citations are a little unnecessary – there is a source list at bottom. The numbers for the citation should at least be a bit smaller. Finally, the title is in way too small a font – it looks like there isn’t any title at all. It should be bigger than the description, and the word “why” is just way too big here. It’s not that pressing of a question.

iCrossing.com recently submitted two infographics to us to post and review on our site. One about Twitter and one about the eReader vs. the tablet. Since both are fairly small infographics, we decided to post them both at once. Check them out, then scroll down to see our thoughts and critiques.

By iCrossing

Here’s what iCrossing had to say about this infographic:

Is it any wonder why marketers are eager to co-brand with celebrities? As this iCrossing infographic shows, the universe belongs to Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber — we’re just living in it. President Barack Obama is doing a nice job keeping pace with them, though.

By iCrossing

Here’s what iCrossing had to say about this infographic:

the Kindle recently announced a major drop in price, but this iCrossing infographic shows just how much catching up the Kindle needs to do. Is the Kindle dead?

Of the two infographics, my favorite by far is the tablet versus ereaders. The color scheme is nice, I love how it rests inside an iPad (though a bit cliche, it really does work). I wish that the infographic wasn’t as short as it is, but since they chose an iPad as the border, it kind of explains the size. That said, There’s a lot more data that could be shown in this infographic. This comes back to the latest debate about infographics: Should they be long and data rich, or should they be short and very focused on one major piece of data? I’m on the side of long and data rich. This is because short infographics leave me with too many questions. For instance, what’s the cost breakdown of each product shown on the infographic? What are the annual sales of each? Those are just some things that this infographic leave unanswered.

The Twitterverse infographic is less appealing. I’m not a huge fan of the color scheme or the layout. I want to be able to look at this and take things in immediately without having to read. In other words, I want pictures of the celebs that are showcased in this infographic, not just their names. I do like the scatter plot and all the data they chose to show, I’m just not too keen on the design/aesthetic. But hey, that’s just me. All in all, the data visualization is great!

This infographic gives a breakdown of how well grocery companies are doing on social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and YouTube. On Facebook, this infographic shows that Target, Walmart, Whole Foods, and Costco, are leading the way in terms of largest fan base. Twitter is a bit of a different story, as Whole Foods is the only company on the list to have a serious presence on the social network, with over 1.7 million followers reported on this infogrpahic. YouTube is unique in that Walmart is the clear leader, with over 17 million followers, and Target is second with only 120,000.
