There are a couple of good examples of data visualization on this infographic, and I like that it stays short and sweet. Viewers get a lot of key info about Transfer Day without having to swim through a lot of extra text. The background texture, of course, makes sense for the topic, and the fonts stay consistent so that they aren’t distracting.

I’d like to see the use of data viz stay consistent, however. When I started in on the graphic, I thought that the dollar amounts in the Top-5 Biggest Premier League Signings would be represented as bar graphs relative to the signing amounts of the other players — but it turned out that £8.5 million was longer than £10 million. It would have been a good opportunity to weight the figures against one another.

The same is true for the key Twitter terms surrounding the Transfer Window. The number 165,570 is about as big as 407,215, and I think the font size of the keyword itself (QPR, with 165,570 tweets) is actually larger than the keyword with more tweets (David Beckham, with 407,215 tweets).

In all I’d give this infographic a B. It makes use of data viz, it isn’t too long, and it’s pretty clean in design. It would just be great to see data viz used to its full potential! And don’t be afraid to get creative with it too: there are more than just bar graphs out there.

This fantastic infographic is brought to you by USDish.com and covers information about Real Salt Lake, a US Major League Soccer team that could end up competing in the FIFA Club World Championship. Upon submitting the infographic to us, USDish.com had this to say:

Considering that we are based out of Salt Lake City, UT, we not only cherish our sports teams, but we have been incredibly impressed by the success of Real Salt Lake (RSL) of Major League Soccer (MLS). The info graphic we designed gives the average soccer fan a detailed look at what the CONCACAF tournament is and what the ramifications are if they win the tournament. It also provides the knowledgeable fan with numerous statistics and interesting information about the team.

I really enjoyed this infographic. It is simple, the color scheme is great, and it gets all the information across perfectly. I really like that they were able to include small text blurbs and quotes without overwhelming the image or detracting from the data visualization. Each graph and chart is simple and clean. My favorite is the “Road to the Championship” graph because I think it is a unique way to displaying a timeline and avoids the common mistake of having too many distracting images. I also love that it displays the Real Salt Lake logo in a way that compliments the aesthetic of the entire infographic and its not too large or distracting.

Great infographic for soccer fans to get some facts about the World Cup, which is one of the most popular sporting events in the world. The first two facts include: the youngest player to have participated in the World Cup was 17, and the oldest player was 42. Next you learn that the biggest win in World Cup history was a 10-1 game, where Hungry beat El Salvador. Another interesting fact on this infographic is that Pele is the only person to win three World Cup events.
