There’s a lot of good survey information here, and I like the integration of mobile imagery throughout. The design stays clean and well organized, maintaining a good balance of illustration and an aesthetic that is suitable for B2B but avoids being completely blah (all traditional bar graphs, minimal use of color, etc.). It’s easy to get the facts and the bigger picture from the simple and concise presentation of information.

Perhaps the designer was afraid of data viz overkill, but there are some spots where I wonder why the number wasn’t visualized. For instance, 23.4% of those surveyed said they see a real monetary ROI from mobile. That’s almost 1 in 4 respondents, but we don’t get that visual cue. It’s the same situation for the final 2 stats on data security — we see them written but there’s no way to really see the importance of data security and secure access to most of the IT professionals surveyed.

In all, I’d give this infographic a B+. It’s clean and easy to understand, keeps the length down and is full of numbers. Maximizing the use of data viz wouldn’t be excessive here, since the infographic itself is brief and there is enough white space for it to work.

This is really clear, concise, and effective. While it isn’t fantastically visually engaging, there are not that many points of focus to contend with, so it’s simple for the reader to get through this in about 30 seconds — perfect for the busy CTO.

We’re introduced to facts about how prevalent mobile devices are in business and how significant security risks can be. Then we get a hypothetical situation showing how the problem of device/data theft can be solved by geo-fencing. The messaging is clear and easily digestible.

The infographic also clearly presents its reputable sources and features the company’s logo without making the infographic or content itself a sales pitch. This is a great method for allowing viewers to link the data to your company without feeling like they’re having anything pushed on them.

In all I’d give this infographic a B+. It’s very quick and effective but just a bit more visual interest — a different colored or textured background, most detailed illustrations, etc. — would make me more likely to pick it out on a page as something I’d like to examine.

This infographic was submitted to us by Zenprise.

I like the style of the first set of data visualization here. The cleverly subtle overlay on top of a world map, also including watermark-esque icons of each platform, makes for a visually engaging introduction to the rest of the more plain (but effective) data viz to come.

The issue here is that instead of letting the data do the talking, all the talking does the talking. An infographic that’s based on a report doesn’t have to include the heavy text of the report. Long blocks of sentences and paragraphs can almost always be condensed into organized and bulleted sections that let the viewer understand what’s being said without having to really read. This infographic seems to combine the functions of an infographic and an infographic blog post. My eye is skipping over all the text to analyze the charts instead.

We also like to avoid all-white backgrounds in general, as they’re likely to just blend in with the web page where the IG might be embedded, making less of an impact.

In all I’d rank this a C as an infographic — I’m so glad that there is clear and effective data viz, but when that happens, there shouldn’t need to be a lot of text to help it out. Slimming down that content will help boost the efficacy of the piece overall.

Today’s infographic comes to us from SingleGrain.com, which is a company that does SEO, PPC, and Social Media Optimization (SMO). Upon submitting this infographic, the folks at Single Grain had the following to say:

This infographic highlights the income and expense of some of the top tech giants in mobile space.

All in all, the infographic is OK. The design isn’t bad, the color scheme is nice, but man is this thing wordy. Wordy infographics are often a deterrent for many. Infographics are a very common method of online marketing these days. Because of that, the space is super cluttered. This means that, to stand out from the crowd, your infographic has to be amazing and definitely not intimidating. This infographic, though, is a bit intimidating with all the text and it is not the kind of eye candy people are getting used to. To improve this infographic, I suggest that they add more data visualization. For instance, a time line of each company with important stock figures would be a great addition. A chart that compares them side by side vertically would help too. Yes, they show this horizontally, but it’s hard to see because of all the scrolling, so a concise bar chart would be an additional perk. Some data about the company owners, with pics of each owner would also be a great addition, as this is something few know and would like to see. Finally, the SingleGrain.com logo should be on this infographic. Since it’s not, what’s to stop someone else from claiming credit for this infographic? Infographics are a tool for link building and brand building, both of those can’t be accomplished without a logo in the design.

This infographic was submitted by XCubeLabs.com and acts as a time line showcasing the evolution of mobile operating systems. Upon submitting this infographic, the folks at XCubeLabs had the following to say:

An infographic which clearly illustrates how the commercial mobile operating systems has grown over time. From the first commercial Palm OS to the latest Android 3.0 Honeycomb the mobile operating system world has gathered many features which makes computing faster and smarter. Palm was the first mobile Operating System to be launched commercially right back in 1996 followed by Windows Pocket PC 2000. The mobile OS technology slowly gained traction from their on but was the market was still away from total maturity until Apple launched the revolutionary iPhone in 2007. Now the mobile market share is split between Symbian, Android and iPhone in huge numbers with windows, palm and blackberry fighting for the fourth spot.

This infographic is OK at best. It’s incredibly hard to read because there is not enough contrast in colors. There’s also not any real data being visualized. Honestly, time line infographics are not easy. They require a clean design and the ability to organize a great deal of information. They are often pretty text heavy, so it’s important to come up with a good amount of data, facts, and figures to break up all the text. This infographic has a lot of dead space in the top half, which could have been fixed with charts and graphs about mobile operating systems. That small addition would greatly improve the infographic.
