The team at Mint is well known for their constant stream of infographics that promote their site and services, and this infographic dubbed Trashonomics, is one of their newest. It was designed by Shane Snow, who often produces some of the cooler infographics for Mashable.com. In this Trashonomics infographic, readers will get a better understanding of the numbers behind all of the trash that we produce here in the United States. One of the first facts you learn is that the U.S. creates 250 million tons of trash each year, and at an average dump cost of $42, it costs about $10.5 billion per year to take care of all that trash.

California and New York rank as the trashiest states, but these states are heavily populated, and that plays a major part in the quantities of trash produced. Another interesting fact on this infographic is that 84% of the trash we throw away each year could be recycled. Many cities in the U.S. are quite progressive when it comes to their recycling programs, but unfortunately this trend is not true across the country.

Overall this infographic is quite informative, but it would be great if it had a bit more data about recycling, as it is key to reducing overall trash production in the U.S.

Mint is known for their infographics, and this new one dubbed Pooponomics, is one of the oddest yet. It comes from designer Shane Snow (aka @shanesnow on Twitter), and it is a fun look at the economics behind human waste. Almost everyone in the U.S. flushes a toilet once a day, but we do not think much beyond that point about where all the human waste goes. This infographic has a variety of facts regarding the costs associated with human waste, including information on the water/sewer industry, diapers, and toilet paper. At the end it shows information on the amount of water and money one household can save from switching from a 3.5 gallon toilet, to a 1.6 gallon toilet.
