This infographic comes to us from the folks at ColcaSac.

Since this infographic is about the iPad, I like how the data is presented as if it is on an iPad screen. Using actual symbols that appear on the iPad and real app logos give it a cohesive theme. I also really like the little iPad shaded to make a pie chart about halfway down!

Overall I give this a C. The reason that this infographic gets a C is that it relies a bit too heavily on text to make sense of all the images. For example, the Apple logo doesn’t tell us anything on its own without the text next to it informing us that there are 65,000 iPad apps, and the picture of a smiling iPad doesn’t show us that one fourth of digital books are being sold via the iBooks iPad app. At the very top of the infographic the “Myths about the iPad” are represented almost solely by text, although the symbols next to them do add nicely to the visual theme of it all. This could be improved easily by placing a little red “x” on top of the symbols to show that the myths are that the iPad does not do these things. Overall there needs to be better data visualization for this to achieve a higher grade.

The data about iPad apps is presented nicely, as I mentioned earlier the app logos contribute well to the theme and do not require heavy text for an explanation. There is a typo in the title “10 Apps Every iPad Owner Must Have” and this section could also be moved to the bottom so it would be underneath the data about apps. Speaking of bottom, the infographic is a little large and requires viewers to scroll down a lot, it could be shrunk down by not very much to become more readable. This is nice visually and thematically but could just use some work when it comes to the data visualization.

This infographic is a visual breakdown of iPad sales in the UK and comes to us from the GumTree.com, a site for Free Classifieds in the UK.

I think that this infographic is very well done. I like that the color scheme is consistent with the logo. It makes the whole thing much more cohesive, especially since the logo is modestly sized and not overbearing. All the data is clearly labeled and visualized nicely. The map showing the iPad sales is pretty creative and is probably the best way to compare listing prices interestingly. I also really enjoy the section showing the proportions of iPad sales in London compared to the rest of the UK – it’s a nice alternative to a standard bar graph and has the same effect. It also flows a lot nicer with the infographic and makes it look less chunky.

The only thing I do not like about the infographic is the heading. I don’t think that the bright red “Sell! Sell!” goes well with the rest of the infographic. It would probably be better to have the title of the infographic in a color more similar to the overall color scheme so that it flows better.

Two Infographics From iCrossing.com

Is it any wonder why marketers are eager to co-brand with celebrities? As this iCrossing infographic shows, the universe belongs to Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber — we’re just living in it. President Barack Obama is doing a nice job keeping pace with them, though.

Of the two infographics, my favorite by far is the tablet versus ereaders. The color scheme is nice, I love how it rests inside an iPad (though a bit cliche, it really does work). I wish that the infographic wasn’t as short as it is, but since they chose an iPad as the border, it kind of explains the size. That said, There’s a lot more data that could be shown in this infographic. This comes back to the latest debate about infographics: Should they be long and data rich, or should they be short and very focused on one major piece of data? I’m on the side of long and data rich. This is because short infographics leave me with too many questions. For instance, what’s the cost breakdown of each product shown on the infographic? What are the annual sales of each? Those are just some things that this infographic leave unanswered.

The Twitterverse infographic is less appealing. I’m not a huge fan of the color scheme or the layout. I want to be able to look at this and take things in immediately without having to read. In other words, I want pictures of the celebs that are showcased in this infographic, not just their names. I do like the scatter plot and all the data they chose to show, I’m just not too keen on the design/aesthetic. But hey, that’s just me. All in all, the data visualization is great!

Today’s infographic comes to us from DiscountCoder.com. The infographic delves into the very brief history of the iPad and an introduction to the iPad2. The iPad2 is not yet available in the UK, so it makes sense that a UK site would create an infographic that showcases an introduction to the latest addition to the iPad family. The other great thing about this infographic is that it’s using UK specific data in all the charts and graphs, so it does a good job of speaking to that UK audience.

All in all, this is a very traditional infographic with a clean “Swiss” style design. I would like to see a little less dead space throughout the design, larger text, and maybe some more eye candy. That said, not all clients or designers want that, so to each their own.

Today’s infographic comes to us from AppOfTheDay.com, which is a website that posts daily reviews of apps available for the iPhone. The infographic details the performance of Apple’s app store since its launch, and focuses on numbers as of December 7th 2010.

There are some interesting stats in this infographic, including the fact that free apps make up for 33% of all apps in the store while 50% of the apps cost anywhere from $0.99 to $2.99. The infographic continues on to show the distribution of apps by platform, category, and price.

Overall, the infographic is OK. The design is nice, but the data is lacking. This isn’t unlike other infographics that have already been released, so this infographic is missing a hook that would make it worth sharing. All in all, there aren’t a lot of points of data in this IG, and some of the most interesting points live in very small (probably 10px) white font that is already hard to read. The infographic does do a good job of sticking to its roots though, by displaying colorful graphs in a layout that is easy to take in all at once. Another nice feature in this infographic, though subtle, is the choice to use rounded corners. As infographics become more and more the norm, the competition is heating up, and something as small as rounded corners will help an infographic stand out from the crowd.
