This infographic was submitted by Robert Half International, who provided this description:

Find out what you’re worth with Robert Half’s salary guides for accounting, finance, technology and administration professionals. Founded in 1948, Robert Half International is the world’s leading specialised recruitment firm and the first to provide placement services for accounting, finance and information technology professionals.

Though this is a very brief infographic–and not that that’s a bad thing–it does a great job of keeping text light, utilizing data viz and staying visually entertaining. It even does this despite the white background and gray accents, maintaining a look of professionalism while being engaging.

It’s clear through both graphs and visual cues which numbers are the most significant. Take the amount CFOs expect salaries to rise–the 34% value is clearly the highest, but it’s also highlighted in blue, making the recognition of its significance instantaneous. The use of iconography mixed with data visualization also spices things up, as in the final graph.

The call to action is well-executed at the bottom, too, not acting as a sales piece but a “learn more here” invitation.

My nit-picky critiques are, well, nit-picky: in the first visualization, I assume that the red characters are representing the 48% that plan to see salaries rise, and the remaining white characters don’t expect salaries to rise. So why is the white character on the end jumping/rising? If anything I think he’d be a bit downtrodden that salaries won’t be rising. Also, in the headline “for those that expect to increase salaries,” I’d think that “for” should be capitalized–and “that” could be changed to “who”. But again, small details. (It’s also a little odd to see the logo at the top and bottom of the infographic, but not outlandish.)

Overall I’d give this infographic an A-! It does its job briefly, doesn’t linger around too long or beat around the bush, and it appears clean and accurate.

This infographic was submitted to us by the folks at New American Funding. They provided this introduction:

“Over the past few weeks we have been taking a long, hard look at credit scores. Do Americans understand what goes into a credit score? What companies or service providers look at credit scores? This infographic gives insight into these questions.

If you find this info a bit surprising, and think to yourself, hey, maybe I should learn more about my credit score, and possibly, how to raise it, then check out our previous blogs on credit scores and what financial celebrity experts say.”

There is some interesting data packed into this infographic. I found the data about all the things that are not included in credit reports very intriguing. I’m surprised that your employment history is not included in a credit report; I had always thought it was. It was also interesting to see how many people want lawmakers to ban the practice of potential employers checking your credit history–looks like a majority of us have something to hide…

This infographic has a really great color scheme. The patriotic colors fit in well with New American Funding’s name and logo. The color scheme also allows the data in red to stick out more to viewers. There is also a nice flow and good consistency among the theme of the data. However, I wish this infographic was longer; it seems to end almost as soon as it starts.

Although a little bit shorter than I prefer, I would still give this infographic an A. The design is data-driven and executed in an aesthetically pleasing way. There is data visualization with nearly every statistic, which is something a lot of “infographics” lack. This is overall a great infographic!

This infographic was submitted to us by Sofica Group.

There’s a lot of data viz here, which is definitely a plus. The colors are nice to look at and this provides a quick reference for anyone curious about how European investment funds are divided.

However, it’s such a basic design, and there’s no context provided. We get types of funds, contributing countries (but no explanation of why all the countries combined for each time period don’t add up to the total number of funds listed in the first graph), and the types of contributors. The colors, while visually appealing, are really too close to each other for the key to be very effective. One has to keep referencing the key after examining every portion of all the graphs, because the dark green looks very similar to the slightly darker green and the slightly lighter green.

Also, each section of data viz is exactly the same–a horizontal bar chart. No variation was attempted here. It looks like it may have been designed by an app, or else it didn’t take very much time to put together.

A bit more effort into attractive and unique appearance would help this infographic, as would additional supporting information. This tells a very short story, but I have a feeling there’s more to the story than what is displayed in the graphs here. Despite its clean B2B aesthetic, overall I’d give this infographic a C.

This infographic was submitted to us by Mint.com. They provided the following description:

“When compared to the simple joys of childhood, growing up and handling your financial responsibilities can be quite the challenge. … You might say Mint makes managing your finances seem like mere child’s play.

We started thinking about Mint, finances, and childhood—and got a little nostalgic. The following infographic reflects that childhood nostalgia with our version of everyone’s favorite childhood board game—Candy Land.”

This is really cute. I kind of want to print it out and turn it into a game. It’s nice to see bright colors used effectively, without overkill. The design and illustrations are really well done, and it’s a good guide to navigating the website.

Ultimately, though, nothing about this is an infographic. There’s no info–no data that can be visualized. An infographic needs statistics. Numbers, percentages, proportions, ratios. There’s nothing of the sort here, so we can’t call it an infographic and I can’t grade it as one. This would be really cool to have on a landing page, making the destinations (like the Ways to Save Cave) links to the parts of the site they mention.

I’d imagine this company does have some statistical data to work with, so maybe a similar format could be used for a future project that would truly be an infographic.

This infographic was submitted to us by Mozo.com.au, who provided this description:

“The current share market turmoil and global financial uncertainty have turned the
spotlight back onto cash investments. So Mozo.com.au has put together a ‘Choose Your
Own Savings Adventure’ infographic to help people find the best home for their savings
based on their particular needs and circumstances.

Finding the best place to stash your cash is becoming more difficult than ever, so we
created this infographic as a fun way to help savers through the maze.

The data in this infographic was sourced from Mozo’s independent database of the high
interest savings accounts and term deposits on offer from over 100 banks, credit unions
and building societies in Australia.”

This is a smart concept for helping people make good financial decisions. The suggestions are very specific, and a “choose your own adventure” is always fun, regardless of the topic. I also love the piratey tag line. It’s also nice that the yeses and nos are color-coordinated, so it’s extremely easy to follow their paths.

Though this is a very nice and handy graphic, it isn’t an infographic. The info isn’t visualized, and there isn’t really much opportunity for it to be. The interest rates could be turned into pie charts, I suppose, but generally it won’t work. One option would be to make graphs comparing what would happen to $5,000 after 5 years, or something like that, to show what the best overall values are. But as it is laid out currently, it’s mostly just text and dotted lines.

Because of that, although it is informative, this graphic would get a C- on the scale of infographics. Without data viz, it’s difficult to get scores any higher.

This infographic, brought to us by GoBankingRates.com, shows just how expensive it could be to use credit cards to buy things. There has been quite a lot of press about the credit card industry over the last few years, as predatory lending and high interest rates have dwindled our economy. Now that the economy is starting to improve, more and more people are jumping back into old habits. This infographic shows just how much those habits can cost, by explaining interest and how often the little things we buy can add up to thousands of dollars each year in hidden fees.

All in all, this is a top notch infographic. It is concise and easy to understand, well designed, and created to be shared. It is only 400px wide, which means that it can live on almost any blog without any tweaking. It isn’t too long, but the design is so well done that a great deal of information can fit on the graphic. For anyone looking for an example of a good infographic to learn from, this is a great place to start.

This infographic helps to illustrate the pieces of the credit score puzzle, so consumers can be aware of what impacts their credit score. There are five areas that can have an impact on your credit score, and this shows you a break down of all of them. The factors are new credit, types of credit, payment history, amount owed, and length of credit history. Payment history and amount owed are the biggest pieces to the credit score puzzle, so it is critical to tackle those first if you want to improve your credit score. You can also see where your credit score puts you in their graph at the bottom which shows what percentage of people have a certain credit score range. The median score in the U.S. is 723, which is pretty good since the max is 850.
