This infographic comes to us from cookazlaw.com and shows the changing federal estate tax over the course of 10 years from 2001 to 2011. According to the infographic:

The Federal estate tax law provides a credit, rather than an exemption, which makes estimating tax liability cumbersome. However, use of a “virtual exemption” based on the credit can simplify calculation. Estates of decedents [sp?] that are smaller than the exemption are not subject to estate tax.

During the last decade, the estate tax has seen major changes in both exemptions and rates. For 2006-2009, the rate above the exemption has been flat. Hover, for all other years, because of the smaller exemption, the rate was progressive.

Overall, the infographic is pretty dull when all is said and done. While some may be very interested in this information, it’s graphical representation lacks imagination. The creators might as well have released an Excel document with the data because it’s just as cumbersome.
