Gobble gobble! It’s almost turkey day, a.k.a. Thanksgiving, in the United States. Other than thinking back on our country’s history, spending time with family and friends, and giving thanks for the good things in our lives, we pretty much consider Thanksgiving to be the day to stuff our faces with delicious food. So this week seems appropriate to round up some food-related infographics. Maybe they will give you some ideas about what you’ll want to eat this Thursday.

Turkey Hunting Infographic

While most people buy frozen or refrigerated turkeys at the grocery store, some still opt to hunt the birds themselves. Much like cutting down your own Christmas tree, we’d imagine that hunting your own turkey offers a similar, triumphant DIY feeling. However, given that the average turkey can run up to 25 miles per hour and fly up to 55 miles per hour, you’d have to be a pretty darn good shot! Still, it’s apparently the fastest-growing hunting trend in the United States, so happy hunting.

Thai Cuisine

Maybe Thai food is not the typical choice for a Thanksgiving meal, but sometimes spicier is better. Besides, what are you going to do if the oven breaks or the turkey falls in the trash? Order pizza? Have some class! Sweet and spicy Thai food would be a much more interesting recovery from disaster than boring old pizza. With this infographic, you can learn what regions your favorite Thai dishes come from, and how spicy they are compared to others. Quick suggestion: get the Khao Phat for Grandma Margaret. Her heartburn isn’t pretty.

History of Superfruits

Everyone has a favorite dish at Thanksgiving, and for some people it’s the cranberry sauce. (Yes, really.) But what about mixing it up a little this year? Blackberry sauce? Blueberry-black currant sauce? Cran-black-blue-strawberry-mangosteen sauce? (Whoa–too far; scale it back.) Check out some of these fruits that you didn’t even know were superfruits. It’s not just acai and goji berry; everyday strawberries are in effect a superfruit too! Open your mind and open your mouth for some different side dishes on Thursday.

The Fatty Truth About Fast Food

And if you don’t want to go the superfruit route, you can always go the deep-fried takeout route. Just look at how many of your daily calories are consumed in one fast food meal! Two common establishments might put you OVER that daily caloric limit, depending on what you order. So even if you decide not to cook the whole feast this year, you might want to still cook up those Brussels sprouts–get a couple veggies in, at least. And no, French fries don’t count as a veggie. Ketchup is not a fruit. Those wilted pieces of lettuce, pickles, onion and tomato might be worth half of a serving.

FarmVille vs. Real Farms

Sure, it feels rewarding to harvest an entire field of pumpkins in two minutes on FarmVille. But think about the back-breaking labor an actual farmer has to do to accomplish the same thing. Do you think it takes him two minutes? No way. (And the average farmer is male, while female players own 60% of the farms on FarmVille.) If there were as many farmers in America as there are FarmVille players, we probably wouldn’t have room for all the farmland! Thank a farmer while you’re eating this Thanksgiving, since you can’t eat your yield from a Facebook game.

There you have it. Food for thought!

FarmVille has become so popular over the last few months that it has become the hot topic for infographics. CreditLoan.com jumped on the bandwagon and created this infographic about the economics of social game FarmVille. Millions of hours of productivity are wasted each year as people zone out and harvest crops on their virtual farms. This infographic notes that FarmVille has 80 million active users each month, and 31 million each day. Many people only use Facebook to play FarmVille, and game creator Zynga is reaping the rewards alongside Facebook.

Roughly 60% of people playing FarmVille are woman and 40% are men. This game is becoming so addictive that a number of players are using real money to get them further along with their virtual farm. Using real money allows them to accelerate things that would take weeks or months of harvest to earn virtual profit. The game is so addicting that the infographic reports it has lured in celebrities like Rachel Ray, Ellen, Lady GaGa, and Wyclef Jean. Additionally the addictiveness of the game has resulted in people losing their job, as noted in the infographic.

Overall this is a useful infographic, but the content is very dense. It would be nice to see them spread things out a bit or use less text when possible. This would allow the infographic to be more easily understood, without having to spend too much time trying to read all the details.

Farmville has slowly become one of the most popular social games online, but it is also one of the biggest time wasters, as people spend countless hours watering and harvesting their virtual crops. Real farmers are a vital part of the world economy, as they supply us all with the food we need to survive. A new infographic created by @ShaneSnow for Mashable, takes a look into the numbers behind Farmville versus Real Farms. The first thing that the infographic illustrates is the difference in the average real farmer compared to a Farmville player. The average real farmer is a 57 year old man, and the average Farmville player is a 43 year old woman. In terms of average salary, the real farmer makes about $35,000 per year, and the Farmville characters make about $50,000. Keep in mind that Farmville players themselves are not actually making any money from the game.

The infographic goes on to illustrate the top crops with real farmers and those Farmville players, and indicates overlap with the wheat, rice, and soybean crops. There are also a number of other interesting statistics on the infographic that detail the differences between Farmville versus Real Farms:

There are 60million Farmville players in the world and only 2million actual farmers

Approximately 70million hours per week are spent playing Farmville

Agriculture makes up 5% of the gross world product while the creator of Farmville took in 200% more profit than Facebook in 2009

Overall Shane Snow does a great job as usual with this infographic about Farmville versus Real Farms. Some of the data does make other questions arise though. For instance, if agriculture makes up 5% of the GDP, what percentage of the GDP does Facebook or social gaming account for? This would be interesting to note as this infographic is meant to compare the two separate entities.
