While there are a lot of numbers here, there are only 3 instances of visualized data, all grouped together at the end of the IG. For the rest of the statistics, the numbers are simply written out without any visual accompaniment. A bar graph could be utilized for many of the top stats, to show the average household income relative to average savings, credit card debt, home value etc. It’d be interesting to see how debt compares to savings, for example. Then as for the percentages, a simple pie chart or pictogram (both are utilized later in the infographic) would help illustrate the proportions.

Since the infographic leads off with a list of numbers that aren’t visualized, it isn’t particularly engaging from the start. Beginning with data viz would be a good way to draw the viewer in to hang on for the rest of the information, if you weren’t planning on visualizing the rest of it for some reason.

I’d also like to see an introduction and conclusion. This infographic launches into a list of numbers, and then ends promptly with a logo. There are no section headings, either, so we end up with a set of random facts that lack a storyline. Infographics should tell a story, rather than just collecting assorted facts.

In all I’d give this infographic a C-. It could use organization, a storyline, and increased visualization to create a great infographic.

A visually striking header, a red-and-black color scheme, and hard-hitting fonts masterfully communicate the sense of urgency associated with Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping in this infographic. The numbers are as well-visualized as the high-stress shopping environment is. We might have liked to see more data viz on the Google stats, or perhaps a scale or chart illustrating the interconnectedness of the numbers in the section, “How much people are planning to spend on Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping.”

The stats under “Predicted Shopping Trends” aren’t exactly clear — will 5% fewer people be shopping on Black Friday this year? Or 5% of all people? The latter seems unlikely because of the stat that follows. But we’re still not entirely sure.

All in all, we love the visual impact of this infographic. It’s sure to draw readers in and keep them reading through to the end — which is exactly what an infographic is supposed to accomplish!

Hiscox business insurance put together this infographic based on a study of small to medium enterprises. We love the dynamic silhouettes, which make us excited to follow the information through to the end, almost as if we were reading a story! In fact, we would love to see these characters carry us through the whole story, with country profiles that employ bigger text and are a little less dense, to fit with the feel of the first half of the infographic. However, it’s important that parallel data from the same countries is contrasted in some way, which is something the graphic already accomplishes.

Also, maybe it’s us, but we’re a bit confused about this stat: “75% hope to avoid redundancies or even to recruit.” Doesn’t avoiding redundancies sometimes involve letting workers go?

The style of the coins seems out of place among the otherwise clean lines of this piece. Also, the font could be a bit more imaginative — particularly in the headline.

This infographic is quite visually engaging and with a few tweaks, could make for stellar proof that infographics can present information in a way no other medium can!

We’d like to know what percentage of people use prepaid phones, or how many switch over to prepaid once their contracts expire.

This infographic comes to us from Bank of America. This clean, easy-to-read layout accomplishes just what it promises: It answers common questions about your credit score by visualizing the numbers, just like any infographic should. The spacious layout makes it easy to jump to the question that’s bothering you most and find the answer you need.

Although the color scheme is energetic and engaging, a white background can be hard to differentiate from the background of a lot of web pages, so a colored or off-white background is usually a better choice.

The opportunity to visualize data is what makes infographics special, so while we like the bubbles of relative scale in the first section and the credit score scale in the second section, data viz breaks down somewhat in the sections that follow. Part of this could be attributed to the fact these sections are more text-heavy, whereas infographics lend themselves better to numbers. Still, the list of actions that could improve or hurt your credit score are easy to read, and therefore easy to reference for the average reader, which is important.

There are a few numbers that could have been visualized in the section titled, “How do credit cards relate to my score?” For instance, a pie chart could have been used to represent 50% of your credit limit, or 20% of your income.

Overall, this is an infographic that makes a sometimes-complicated topic comprehensible for the average reader, and that’s one of the most important tasks an infographic can accomplish!

This infographic was submitted to us by Women Health Zone.com and this is what they had to say about it:

“Birth control has ruled the human society ever since women realized that they are not baby making factories and that relationship, self preservation and financial possibilities responsible for sustaining a family were directly linked to how many
children a family can afford.”

This infographic has a lot of interesting and somewhat alarming statistics. I, for one, was surprised at the fact that 49% of pregnancies are unintended. Maybe it is the word choice of “unintended” versus “unexpected” that has a negative connotation, but it definitely caught me off guard. It was also interesting to see the usage and failure of birth control pills.

The statistics are visualized really nicely for the most part in this infographic. There were a couple charts where it seemed the data wasn’t completely accurately represented though. For instance, the pie chart that is meant to represent 1% is a bit off. However, the designer did a great job of balancing data-visualization and text. I also like the variation of charts used for data-visualization. Although there is a mixture of types of charts, they also all fit into the birth control pill category which is great.

This infographic uses black as a background color, which is not ideal, but I think the electric blue is a good color choice to make it pop. It also has a really good flow and stays very consistent with the theme. Overall, I would give this infographic an A.
