This infographic was submitted to us by Bet Victor.

This has several elements commonly seen in infographics: timelines, a “by the numbers” section, profiles of key players in the subject, and assorted fun facts. There are lots of great numbers throughout the IG (£6 prize?! Old school!) so you learn a lot about the game in a short amount of time.

Because there are so many numbers here, I’d love to see some data visualization incorporated! £6? How about 6 £1 notes? 12 finals won by Scottish players? 12 Scottish flags! That takes some of the reading out of the infographic, and makes it even quicker and more intuitive for the viewer. This infographic does feature a fair amount of text (the timeline being the most crowded example), so any opportunities to cut down on text should be integrated into a great infographic.

Still, the overall aesthetic remains playful, colorful, and lively, so it’s fun to move from section to section. The design also manages to incorporate illustration elements with photos, and it isn’t too jarring — sometimes this combination can be awkward.

In all I would give this infographic a B-. It contains a lot of good data, but could rely less on text to convey its info — telling stories with images is one of the key functions of a great infographic.

This infographic was submitted to us by Reedman Toll.

I like the background imagery and the cute little pig icons used for numbering the ways to save! This graphic also features some great tips for cheap/free tech tools.

However, the problem here is that the graphic is just text chunks and icons. Any numbers that are given aren’t visualized with charts, graphs, pictograms, etc. and the text isn’t broken up much — even three consecutive lines of text can look heavy on an infographic. Infographics should rely primarily on imagery to carry the story, but the viewer has to read to get most of the information. The use of logos, though, does a good job of letting the viewer know instantly what the 10 tools are; it’s just that we have to read to get the rest of the info.

In all, I’d love to see design incorporated more into the use of numbers, and see the text reduced and dispersed a little more. That would improve the speed at which a viewer can process the infographic, and the likelihood they’ll stick around to absorb all of the info. I’d also like to see a concluding statement or call to action to tie up and summarize.

I’d give this infographic a C, since it needs a bit of tweaking to maximize its efficacy.

This infographic was submitted to us by PokerStars.com, who also submitted this description:

March 8 was International Women’s Day, a time we recognize the contribution women make to the world in every field and the historical inequalities women have had to face. This day of recognition dates back to 1911, a time long before we thought about women’s contribution to the game we all love.

So now in 2013, we thought it might be interesting to look at the female make-up of PokerStars and recognize some of the big contributions some of our top female players have made to the poker realm.

There are a few examples of data visualization on this infographic, from the first stat about the percent of the site’s players that are female to the fastest growing countries and the money list. There are more places where it could have been integrated, but it’s nice to see it put to use in a few different spots, and I like the bar charts created by chips/coins instead of just opting for plain graphs. The Top Countries for Female Players section could have also used data viz, but it’s not seen there.

A little more could have been done throughout for visual interest — maybe a textured background or a little more typographical variation. Yet, overall, the text is kept short, there isn’t too much information, and the organization is easy to follow.

In all I’d give this infographic a B: it accomplishes its goals, but is a little bland and could stand to maximize its data visualization opportunities.

According to the new Infographic from Baines & Ernst – The Cost Of Celebrations – us Brits spend a whopping 2.4 billion on Valentine’s day! But that’s not the only celebration where we splash the cash…

This graphic is packed with stats and features some nice illustration. It’s an interesting choice of holidays to include (no winter holidays or graduations?) but it is good to have a specified focus!

It seems a little random to me whether some facts were included in the main body of the infographic or in the “Did You Know?” section at the botom. I think better differentiation would make this a bit more intuitive for the reader.

I also want to see data visualization here. The stats are listed and sometimes accompanied by iconography, but they are never visualized with charts, graphs, pictograms, etc. Data visualization is key to a great infographic — so much so, in fact, that without data viz, it isn’t really considered an infographic at all.

I’d make the design a little more focused, too. It’s a bit “busy” with objects jutting in from all sides, overlapping each other – it’s tough to know where to look.

In all I’d give this graphic a C-. It’s got the data down, but it needs organization, visualization and some de-cluttering!

This infographic was submitted to us by Monarch.co.uk

The design here is pretty busy, but the illustrations are great and the style is clean overall. It just looks a bit crowded between the illustrations, the icons, the data viz and the text! Still, the info is really useful for skiers with the travel bug, and seems like it could really help them pick their favorite destinations — especially with the circle graphs showing the ratio of available courses for each skill level. Then it just comes down to where they can get some cheap flights to and from their ski adventures!

I also love the visualizations for distance from the airport and elevation. Creative data viz goes a long way in making an impression in the infographics world. However, it does make the final section pretty off-putting in comparison. A large texty chart doesn’t look like something you want to read after coming across engaging charts and graphs. With a little more time and space, more data viz could be employed for the remaining sections. It also seems you don’t need the Mountain Elevations, Resort Elevation, or Cost of Stay Indicator in that bottom chart, since they are already conveyed in the first section — so that would eliminate a lot of the bulk!

In all I’m a fan of this IG, so I’d love to see the bottom chart slimmed down so that it can finish with the same “bang” with which it starts!

This infographic was submitted to us by iSatelliteTV.

There are a few grammatical problems right at the beginning that make it difficult to move forward. “That’s up nearly a 500,000 dollars” doesn’t need the “a,” “Super Bowl” is written as one word immediately next to that, and the market share description for Go Daddy isn’t polished. At first, “Market Share” is treated like a proper noun (yet “super bowl” isn’t properly capitalized), but then “market share” is all lowercase in the next sentence. The typos continue throughout the IG.

Proofreading is a critical step in the creation of any project. When an infographic is shared across the web, it doesn’t positively reflect on your company to present something that’s noticeably flawed. It’s exciting to see a finished design and want to start sharing it, but don’t skip that final step!

As for data visualization, the “Ads of 60+ Seconds in the Super Bowl” would have been an apt place for that. It even seems that the visuals on which the percentages are shown are mimicking circle graphs. However, the length of the outline on the circle is the same for every year, even when the percentages vary. A similar problem occurs in “Advertising Spending Per Year” — it seems to be a bar chart, but the length of the bars simply increases by year, not by how much the spending increased or decreased, so it’s not really doing its job. Quickly changing these so that they reflect the data would be a good direction toward including data visualization.

Also, although there is some diversity in fonts, one of the main ones used is Arial. Arial doesn’t really shine in graphic designs, so with the wide variety of fonts available to us now, it’s generally preferable to branch out a bit.

In all I’d have to give this infographic a D. Although there IS data, it isn’t visualized, and the design and language could use some help, too.

I love the spooky clouds/haze used throughout and the dramatic Halloween pumpkin oranges, candlelight yellows, and blood reds. The subheading font is also great with the theme, though the main font used for the majority of the text is rather plain.

In the spirit of these thematic elements, I wish the data viz would incorporate it a little more. Maybe the person icons could be carrying bags of candy or have witch hats or vampire capes? And maybe the fake blood stat could be a bar graph in a syringe? Might as well take the theme to the extreme!

(As a side note, it’s pretty funny to see Barack Obama sandwiched between Nicki Minaj and Angry Birds for top costume choices. Bet he never thought he’d find himself ranking in between those two!)

I’m curious about the graph overlay through the infographic. Not that I don’t think it works, but it’s an interesting choice for the topic, too.

In all I’d give this infographic a B. It serves its purpose and delivers the information in a concise manner, and it’s also pretty well proofread (with a few exceptions, like “Halloween” or “Hallowe’en” and the sentence casing of National Retail Federation). A little more creative data viz and some more fun with the main font could jazz this up into a great Halloween graphic!

This infographic was submitted to us by Alfred Dunhill.

I love the silhouettes throughout this IG, evoking the imagery of the typical Bond intro credits. I also appreciate that text is kept to a minimum throughout and that although there are several different colors used, they are sectioned off so they don’t look overwhelming all together.

I’m confused about the data viz in the lead section. What are the percentages? Did Bond wear midnight blue fabric 47% of the time? Or did 47% of fans vote for midnight blue as their favorite? What’s the context? I do love the style of the pie charts, though — another classic Bond element.

Although the silhouettes are styled nicely, it’s a little odd that such detail is given about each and every thing Bond is wearing, yet we can’t actually see that detail. Omega ‘Seamaster’ Watch — not pictured. Converse Jack Purcell OTR? Just some olive-green shoe silhouettes. Ralph Lauren brown belt — not only not pictures, but probably wouldn’t be brown if it were. Just seems that silhouettes were used as an aesthetic without considering the value of detail to the piece. Since the concept of the infographic is all about the little details of Bond’s outfits, I think we need to see that.

I DO love the inclusion of the fashion faux-pas though!

In all I’d give this infographic a C. While a lot of effort was made to sneaky in Bond-esque elements, I think in some cases it overshadows the best interest of the infographic. I also need more explanation regarding what the data viz means. But conceptually, I love that there’s an infographic about this topic.

There’s a lot going on here visually; I suppose that works well because of the imagery-based topic, though! This offers great tips for any photographer (or aspiring photographer) looking to expand their horizons in extreme settings. This design does a great job of keeping text light and engaging the reader with interesting visuals.

Because this is more instructional than data-focused, it’s difficult to judge as an infographic. Infographics are characterized by telling a story and replacing data with visuals. Again, since this more text tips, it doesn’t really lend itself to the data visualization that a traditional infographic would have. However, it is a quick and easy way to give someone ideas for how to adapt to field conditions and what to prepare before you get there.

As an infographic I’d give this a C for lack of visualized/visualizable data, but as a tool for extreme photographers, an A! It could be cool to have a depth chart on the underwater section for the ideal depth vs. how deep the featured camera can go, or for wildlife how many photos a NatGeo photographer takes in one shoot (or something along those lines).

This infographic was submitted to us by StowAway2.

There’s a lot of good information here and a great amount of hard statistics! It’s surprising to see how many tailgaters arrive several hours before the game to set up and get cooking, especially considering 1 in 3 of them never even enter the game! I’m going to guess that live streams and portable TVs are common for this reason — it would be nice to see some stats on how tailgaters prefer to watch the game when it’s broadcast.

The organization/layout is a little cramped, so it’s hard to decide what to look at first. There isn’t a lot of breathing room to let each stat stand out on its own. A little more negative space would benefit the design.

I understand the reasoning for the colors, but they come out a little garish on my screen. Of course, that’s different for almost everyone, but it gets hard to look at after awhile.

I love the football design for Top 10 College Tailgating Destinations. Very clever! And the positives and negatives of each type of cargo carrier will help outfit any tailgater.

Overall I’d give this infographic a B — it’s got great stats and info but could use a little bit of rethinking on organization and possibly color scheme.
