This infographic was submitted to us by Everyday Health, who also provided a brief description:

Many people are becoming more health conscious and turning to a vegan or vegetarian diet. This infogram points out the many benefits to switching your diet, including a decreased mortality rate.

It starts off with what seems to be pretty clear-cut numbers: non-vegetarians in this study had a significantly higher death rate. I’d love a little bit more info though: what was the time period for the study? Later, in the “More Facts” section, we get the info on the death rate as being 6 in 1,000 people annually, with 2,570 total deaths, but it’s best to make the facts clear upfront so viewers feel they can trust your information.

It would be great to see a bit more visual interest here, although it appears from the site that they’ve used branding to determine some of the colors and fonts. With that in mind, the easiest change would be to make a colored or textured background to set the design apart from the web page on which it lives.

It’s intriguing to see the ailments of those that died contrasted with the typical habits/characteristics of the (more likely to survive) vegetarians, since it seems many of those habits and characteristics are recommendations for avoiding the listed ailments. It’s also good to see icons used for everything mentioned in that section, as many of the icons explain the text without needing to read.

In all I’d give this infographic a B. It does a great job of keeping text minimal and getting its point across quickly, but could benefit from a bit more innovative design and a bit more detail upfront about the study.
