There is some interesting data packed into this infographic. I found the data about all the things that are not included in credit reports very intriguing. I’m surprised that your employment history is not included in a credit report; I had always thought it was. It was also interesting to see how many people want lawmakers to ban the practice of potential employers checking your credit history–looks like a majority of us have something to hide…

This infographic has a really great color scheme. The patriotic colors fit in well with New American Funding’s name and logo. The color scheme also allows the data in red to stick out more to viewers. There is also a nice flow and good consistency among the theme of the data. However, I wish this infographic was longer; it seems to end almost as soon as it starts.

Although a little bit shorter than I prefer, I would still give this infographic an A. The design is data-driven and executed in an aesthetically pleasing way. There is data visualization with nearly every statistic, which is something a lot of “infographics” lack. This is overall a great infographic!

An interactive infographic exploring why pigs are the most amazing creatures in nature. From 7 minute miles to 30 minute orgasms, these animals can do a lot that humans never knew.

There are a lot of interesting facts about pigs in the infographic and some pretty funny data-viz (Pig smoking a cigarette? Priceless). I particularly liked the lengthy comparison of male humans and pigs. I was actually pretty surprised that pigs can run an average 7 minute mile–you don’t usually associate pigs with running, or anything else that would be considered “healthy”. It was sad for me to see that pigs are the fourth most intelligent animal seeing how they are treated by food corporations. I also would have never guessed that they were smarter than dogs or cats. All very interesting data.

This infographic also had some nice visualization of data with the little Piglets representing how many babies a sow can give birth to within a year. I also liked the way the “Pig Anatomy” represented what parts of a pig are used for what types of food. The infographic stayed true to the theme throughout and had a nice flow. I didn’t feel bombarded by too much information, I was able to read through the infographic with ease.

I would give this infographic an A- overall. The only reason I wouldn’t give it a solid A is because I wish there was more data visualization. Although there were a couple facts that were nicely visualized, I was left wanting more. A couple of the facts that just included graphics could be improved by exchanging the graphic for a better representation using some sort of graph/chart. Perhaps this could be done with some of the facts about pigs versus male humans. But overall, this is a fun and informative infographic!

This infographic has a lot of interesting and somewhat alarming statistics. I, for one, was surprised at the fact that 49% of pregnancies are unintended. Maybe it is the word choice of “unintended” versus “unexpected” that has a negative connotation, but it definitely caught me off guard. It was also interesting to see the usage and failure of birth control pills.

The statistics are visualized really nicely for the most part in this infographic. There were a couple charts where it seemed the data wasn’t completely accurately represented though. For instance, the pie chart that is meant to represent 1% is a bit off. However, the designer did a great job of balancing data-visualization and text. I also like the variation of charts used for data-visualization. Although there is a mixture of types of charts, they also all fit into the birth control pill category which is great.

This infographic uses black as a background color, which is not ideal, but I think the electric blue is a good color choice to make it pop. It also has a really good flow and stays very consistent with the theme. Overall, I would give this infographic an A.

This infographic has a clear design that stays consistent from start to finish. I also appreciate the inclusion of an introduction at the top of the graphic to give viewers an explanation of what they’re about to see. The data is visualized in various ways, which is good because it keeps the data interesting. Every section has a clear, easy-to-read heading and overall, this infographic is super easy to follow.

With that said, there are a couple suggestions that could take this infographic to the next level. For one, it would be nice to have some more data included. As it is, there are only 3 categories of statistics, and the infographic seems a little bare-bones. To bulk this baby up, a couple more statistics along with some awesome data viz could be included. Also, though the background colors used are consistent, I think it might be helpful to add some different colors that make information stand out more.

Overall, I would give this infographic a B/B-. It has some really great qualities, but could use some more info and data viz.

This infographic covers a topic that most of us are familiar with: fast casual dining. It has some really interesting facts, such as how 6 fast casual dining chains were included on Parents Magazine’s list of “10 Best Family Restaurants 2011.” It is also interesting to see that fast casual dining restaurants are the only segment that showed unit growth in 2010, while the segments of full-service and limited-service restaurants lost units.

As far as data visualization goes, this infographic really only includes one true data viz chart. However, the statistics included are all relevant and nicely organized. The information is interesting and easy to understand, but the infographic as a whole is a bit text-heavy and I would like to see some more visualization of facts and statistics.

Overall, I would give this infographic a B. It has a good design and interesting information, but could use some more graphics/data-visualization. With a couple minor additions, this infographic would deserve an A.

As a change in attitude is crucial to facilitate improvements, Iron Mountain has surveyed businesses to understand their attitudes to recycling and moving paper out of the office environment through digitising and off-site storage and secure shredding. The infographic contains some key figures to show the range of opinions across Europe.

Finally, it highlights the steps that businesses can take both on an individual and organisational level, to improve, from scanning and digitising their archive to securely shredding documents no longer needed.

This infographic has a lot of great facts and suggestions in addition to nice data-visualization. Had I known October 27th was World Paper Free Day, this infographic would have convinced me to participate. I was pretty surprised by some of the statistics as well. I know there is a lot of paper wasted, but I didn’t know that the amount equaled to the average person printing 45 sheets per day. That seems a bit excessive to me. I particularly like the suggestions and visualization of what people can do to conserve paper.

The entire infographic has a nice flow and stays consistent to the theme of information. I also really like the color scheme- not only does it stand out, but it fits into the earthy/conservation theme as well.

As far as grading this infographic, I would not hesitate to give it an A. It fits all the requirement of a great infographic and I can’t think of any changes that should be made.

“This infographic looks at just how much of an impact the pure play shopping retailers Asos has had on the internet, and demonstrates how far they have come in a short space of time. Using both revenue and traffic based data, this insightful infographic really breaks down the complexities behind the daily success of Asos.”

There are a couple things I really like about this infographic, including the data-visualization of countries in which Asos consumers reside. I thought it was creative how the designer used flags to mark the distribution of consumers. I also liked the timeline, which shows the history of the online retail store. The infographic does a good job of remaining relevant and telling a story about the company from start to finish. I also appreciated the introduction paragraph at the top- most IG don’t included them, but I find them really helpful, personally.

Although this infographic has some good qualities, there are also a few areas that could use some improvements. One potential quick fix is the background color. It is usually a good idea to stay away from white or black as a background color because they tend to blend into the background color of the website they get posted onto. Secondly, although this infographic contains a lot of relevant information, there is hardly any true data-visualization. They definitely included a lot of pictures, but not pictures that are representative of the data they are placed next to. One statistic that could be easily visualized is the one about how many Facebook fans and how many daily visits they receive.

Overall, I would give this infographic a C. It has some great aspects, but it also needs a few tweaks. With a different background color and some more data-viz, it could be great.

This infographic was submitted to us by Car Insurance Comparison.org. It provides a comparison of the salaries of Auto CEOs versus their employees and is indeed “shocking”. The designer gave some really cool visualizations and comparisons of CEO salaries. I really like the way they showed how many best selling cars it would take to pay the respective CEOs salary. I also think it was pretty creative how the portrait of a CEO was divided to indicate the top 7 CEOs salaries.

This infographic is also a good example of not being too text-heavy. Much of the data-visualization is self-explanatory, which is a necessary quality of a good IG. It also maintains the same theme throughout and tells the viewer a story. The color palette used is very nice as well. It is helpful that the designer assigned each CEO/auto company a color, and their color remained the same in every graphic- it makes the information easier to understand.

This IG contains a lot of great information and statistics, however, some of the ways the data was visualized was a little bit hard to follow. In particular, the info about bonus breakdowns was really confusing to me. I read through it a couple times and would still get lost about what each symbol and dollar amount was meant to represent. Another piece of data that could be improved is under the heading “Factors Affecting Wage Range”. The graphic shows statistics of wages for workers who have been on the job for 1-4 years and 10-19 years, but leaves us hanging in the 5-9 year range. It is especially confusing because the 5-9 year range is filled in with color, but there is no statistic or explanation why. This is a simple fix, but a necessary one.

Overall, I would give this infographic a B+. It has a great color scheme, interestingly shocking information, and nice data-visualization. With a few quick fixes to cut down on confusion it could reach the next level.

Dell knew what they were doing- it has all the components of a kick-butt infographic: the design is fluid and data driven, it has a clean color pallet, it is not too text heavy, and it tells a story.

Let’s talk about some of my favorite parts of this infographic. First, I like the use of a time line not only to lay out facts, but also to lead viewers through the entire story. The time line even has arrows, so we don’t have to think twice about where they want us to go. Next, the information is presented visually! This is an obvious requirement of an infographic, but often times people get caught up with cool statistics and fail to visualize the data. All of the statistics have some kind of visualization, which I appreciate, although I would suggest a little variation with the types of graphs and charts used.

My favorite graph/chart is the very first one, which uses cash to represent the bars in a tradition histogram. I wish there was a little more creativity with a few of the other charts. It would be nice to see a few more eye-catching graphics, but it isn’t completely necessary.

The color palette is clean and easy on the eyes. Everything that should stand out, does. The designer chose a nice font and did a good job of highlighting interesting facts by making them bold, large, or different colors. I am also happy to see an appropriate amount of text in the infographic. The story could still be deciphered if text was eliminated, which is a quality of a good infographic.

This submission is overall pleasing and I would give it an A. Bravo, Dell!

This infographic was submitted to us by IKEA. As it includes the dishwashers IKEA has for sale at the bottom, I’m assuming it is supposed to be an advertisement of sorts.

I really enjoyed looking through this infographic because it contains a lot of interesting and comical facts about dishwashers. I laughed out loud at the visual of foods you can cook inside of a dishwasher- lasagna in a bag? Yum. I also liked the data-visualization of the cost to run a dishwasher versus flushing the toilet. Can I also point out how darling the wet kitten is? Aww.

Although this infographic has some great (and hilarious) data-visualization, some of the content would be lost if the text was eliminated. There are a ton of facts and statistics regarding dishwashers, however, graphics aren’t always included. For example, the fact about how many times dishwashers are mentioned on Twitter each month is a great statistic, but without data-viz it gets lost in the infographic. With that said, when data is visualized, it is executed quite nicely.

The theme of information in this infographic is consistent, which I appreciate, but the layout could be adjusted to make more sense. Because there is so much information, the title gets lost because it is not located at the top of the page. Also, due to the amount of information and text, it is hard to decided what to read first- the data doesn’t have a great flow to it. But the colors used are nice, the gold and red nicely contrast the blue and I’m glad the background is something other than white or black.

As far as a letter grade, I would give it a B+. It is super informative, funny and well put together. With a few minor changes, such as a more prominent title and a more fluid layout, this infographic could be an A+.
