1. Judo. This type of martial art was created for sport and exercise which originated in Japan. However, it is proven to be effective in close combat through the use of leverage. The primary goal is to throw or takedown an opponent for points.
The cornerstone of this martial art is maximum efficiency, minimum effort. In judo, a person can beat a much larger person with proper technique and balance. However, the major weakness in the art of judo is that there is the lack of any striking techniques in competition.

2. Kickboxing. There are different origins of kickboxing but we are most familiar with the American version. This martial art can be for fitness, self-defense or sport. To disarm an opponent, kickboxing uses a combination of punches, knees, headbutts, and kicks. The key here is speed and agility. You must strike before the attacker can react and respond.

3. Karate. This form of martial art originated in Japan and practiced primarily for sport. It uses a combination of kicking, punching, elbows and open hand techniques. In karate, the main focus is deflection, controlling and disabling attacks. Instead of targeting the face and head, in karate, the punches are directed at the solar plexus, a weak point of the body. This is effective in disabling the opponent.
